Click here for a short preview of what you will experience.

What is the Passion Play?
The world-renowned Oberammergau Passion Play began in 1634 when residents from the town sought reprieve from the Bubonic Plague. The inhabitants of the village vowed that if God were to spare them from the Plague, they would perform a play every ten years depicting the life and death of Jesus. Not a single person fell victim to the Plague after the villagers’ promise. That first performance sparked a heartfelt tradition that lives on today…

When does the Passion Play occur?
The Oberammergau Passion Play is performed every ten years for a limited time May – September 2010 by nearly half of Oberammergau’s residents who will bring to life this powerful story blending dramatic text, beautiful music and choral accompaniment.

Why would I want to see the Passion Play?
Perhaps it is the fact that the Passion Play is performed only every 10 years or that it has carried on an age-old tradition from 1634 to the present day. Whatever the reason, there are few events in the world that are truly once-in-a-lifetime happenings… and this is one of them!
